Coaching Young Women & Girls

This toolkit provides coaches with strategies to understand the unique needs of women and girls

Coaching Young Women & Girls

Coaching is not just about teaching skills; it's about empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential. When it comes to coaching young women and girls, understanding their unique needs and preferences is crucial for creating a positive and impactful experience. This toolkit serves as a guide for coaches, offering insights and strategies to foster a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment for female athletes.

Recognising that every athlete is different, the toolkit emphasises the importance of getting to know each individual, understanding their motivations, goals, and challenges both on and off the field. It underscores the idea that coaching is not a one-size-fits-all endeavour but requires tailoring approaches to meet the specific needs of young women and girls.

The toolkit aims to empower coaches with insights into understanding what young women and girls seek from their coaching experience and how to create a safe and supportive environment for them. Recognising that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to coaching, the toolkit emphasises the importance of tailoring coaching styles to meet the needs and preferences of individual athletes. It highlights that the primary reason for engaging in sports is fun, a factor that transcends gender. However, it acknowledges that sex differences in athletic performance and engagement typically emerge with puberty.
