#ItsMyMove aims to empower young women to engage actively in activities of their choice.
#ItsMyMove is about how activity can better meet the needs of young women. As a young woman, you know the advantages of being active. Unfortunately, it is difficult to establish and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle due to factors like lack of time, motivation, body confidence, and pressure to "be good" in sports. There is a 17% gap at age 16 and a 28% gap at age 17, which reveals young women are gradually participating less than young men of the same age. So, how do we support young women in establishing a healthy, active life? It starts by understanding what's important to them.
Sport New Zealand has launched a campaign called #ItsMyMove to encourage young women in sport and recreation and to help them feel confident, be part of the conversation and be empowered to participate on their terms. #ItsMyMove is also designed for parents and providers involved in sport and recreation to encourage them to concentrate on developing enjoyable, welcoming spaces that provide young women with a sense of support, confidence, and reduction in judgment.
Southland Secondary Schools Sport hosted 120 girls from schools around the region for a fun day out! A Youth Week initiative, Girls 'Have a Go' Day, was all about giving young women the opportunity to try various activities in a social, judgement-free environment.
