Social media is an awesome tool for local sports clubs. We know that many members, guests and community members use social media regularly. Therefore, it’s a great way to communicate directly with your club community 24/7.

Setting up a sports club's landing page on social media involves creating a visually appealing and informative profile that captures the essence of the club. Here's a guide for a start:

Profile Picture: Choose a clear and recognisable logo as your profile picture. This could be the club's official logo or an iconic image associated with the team. 

Cover Photo: Use a dynamic and visually striking image as your cover photo. This could be a panoramic shot of the pool, an action photo from a race, or a group picture of the club members. 

Bio: Craft a concise and compelling bio that introduces the sports club. Include key details such as the club's name, location, founding year, and a brief description of the team's ethos or achievements. Use relevant keywords to make your page discoverable.

Contact information: Provide contact details such as an email address or a link to the club's official website. This makes it easy for new members, sponsors, or caregivers to  get in touch with the club.

Link to website: If applicable, include a link to the official club website. This is essential for directing interested members to more detailed information, schedules, event times, or membership information. 

Social Media Links: If the club is active on other social media platforms, include links to those accounts in your bio. 

Consistent Branding: Maintain consistent branding elements, such as colors, fonts, and messaging, across your social media page. This reinforces your brand identity and makes your page visually cohesive.

Growing your Community:

Now that your page is set up, it’s time to start attracting club members. As a local sports club you already have an engaged group of followers – athletes, teammates, family and friends. The most important part is making sure that the club community knows the page exist.  

  • Invited club members, friends and family to follow or ‘like’ your page. Try sending out an email, or making an announcement at events to tell people about the page. Make it clear that this social media page will be a key point of information for club members. 
  • Added social media links to your website, newsletter, email signature and any club resources. The more resources that link to your social media page, the better.
  • Going beyond the membership will happen organically as more and more of your members engage with your content. The algorithms each social channel has in place often change but all run along the same concept. The more engagement your posts gets, the more non-followers will see your content.
